The Chicago Building Congress Award of Honor

A law graduate of the University of Wisconsin, experienced construction lawyer Ed Filer co-heads the construction law group at Roetzel & Andress LLP in Chicago. Ed Filer also holds memberships with numerous professional organizations related to law and the construction industries, including the Chicago Building Congress (CBC).

Founded in 1938, the CBC has grown into one of the most important construction-related professional societies in the city. The organization currently stands as the only vertically integrated association for the regional industry, counting among its membership professionals from such diverse fields as architecture, insurance, media, and manufacturing, as well as labor unions. In addition to promoting the industry through seminars, networking events, and advocacy efforts, the CBC offers a range of annual awards to recognize the contributions of outstanding members.

The Award of Honor is the most prestigious honor awarded to an individual member of the CBC. Given in honor of a nominee’s lifetime achievement, the award has gone to some of the most prominent figures in the area's construction industry over the past 25 years. Any member of the CBC can nominate an individual or partnership that he or she feels is worthy of the honor, with all nominations taken into consideration by a panel of industry leaders. After convening to review and discuss the nominees, the selection committee announces the award winner each September.
